Books We Love [NPR]

I’m very excited to share that Are You Sara? was chosen as a ‘Books We Love’ by NPR!

It starts off with a nightmarishly riveting conceit: Two women with the same name accidentally switch cabs and one of them gets murdered at her wrong drop-off location. That’s what happens to Saraswati “Sara” Bhaduri and the rich college student Sarah Ellis after meeting at a bar one night. Now Sarah is gone, the police have no leads, and Sara is paranoid that she was supposed to be the target because of her past. Are You Sara? cogently navigates the duality of identity, what it says about social hierarchy, and the things people will do to survive. Perhaps one of the most striking moments in the book is when Sara wonders if the police would’ve paid her any attention had she gone missing. S.C. Lalli’s debut thriller is punchy and an introspective reminder that money and power always come with dangerous strings attached.
